LightWave 3D, the 3D product from NewTek, will be on every Mac and Windows system in the Studio, an interactive classroom at the SIGGRAPH 2001, which runs Aug. 12-17 in Los Angeles.
LightWave 3D by NewTek is a 3D modeling and animation application. LightWave 3D has long been popular with designers in television and film production, and NewTek is trying to carve out a place for the software with game developers, as well. Swift 3D LightWave Plug-in will support both Mac and Windows platforms, and will accurately render complex models as vector outlines, 1-4 color shaded cartoon files and realistic gradient shaded files, according to Dan Maginot, director of Plug-in Marketing at Electric Rain. LightWave 6.5 is available for both 9.x and Mac OS X.
In the Studio at SIGGRAPH 2001, attendees of all skill levels are invited to sign up to use the latest off-the-shelf, commercial animation software to develop, create or refine 2D and 3D ideas, concepts and data into animation. The general interface, workflow and creation tools are covered in hands-on sessions in The Studio and in interactive tutorial presentations in The Studio Tutorial Theater throughout the week.
Attendees can interact with the Studio staff to create animation of any style, using any available techniques to achieve them. The staff will assist with an introduction to the concepts of modeling, texturing, lighting and application of the basic principles of animation.
The SIGGRAPH 2001 trade show will bring over 40,000 computer graphics and interactive technology professionals from six continents to LA for the weeklong conference. A comprehensive technical program and special events focusing on research, art, animation and interactive technologies are planned. SIGGRAPH 2001 includes a three-day exhibition of products and services for the computer graphics and interactive marketplace.
