24U s.r.o. has updated its 24U Appearance OSAX — an AppleScript scripting addition.
It gives AppleScript features for communicating with users. It will let you pop-up alerts, display dialogs, open floating text message windows, show progress indicators, and post all kinds of notifications, according to MacTech magazine.
With version 1.2, you can now display pop-up menus in your “better dialogs.” It also lets you direct parameter in the “create message window” command for easier usage. A period can be typed into text and password fields, and it will now return field values correctly when a text field’s default value is erased.
OSAX is targeted to scripters who need to interact with users and feel too limited with the standard “display dialog.” It requires a Macintosh with at least 68020 processor, or any Power Mac; Mac OS 7.5 or newer with Appearance installed; Mac OS 8.6 or higher (though it’s not been Carbonized for Mac OS X yet); and AppleScript 1.3.7 for floating text messages and progress indicators. The cost is US$29. You can download 24U Appearance OSAX at the 24U s.r.o. Web site.
