Toast 5 Titanium publisher Roxio Inc., CD-R manufacturer Verbatim Corp. and media labeling company Fellowes, Inc. today announced a new initiative to help promote legal CD burning. BurnPak is the name of the new promotion.
Consumers can access an online tutorial called Learn.2.Burn, where they can download free authorized MP3 files. Those files can then be burned to CD using Roxio’s Toast 5 Titanium for Mac (or Easy CD Creator 5 Platinum for Windows). Verbatim and Fellowes are providing a recordable CD and sample label sheet, respectively, which will be included in boxes of Creator and Toast.
Roxio CEO and president Chris Gorog said that the company’s goal is to enable consumers to legally download and record music to CD. Roxio cites predictions that online music sales will reach US$5 billion by 2005, with 5 billion blank CDs shipped that year in support of about 100 million CD recorders.
Roxio said that it would broaden its partnership with Verbatim and Fellowes over the next year to provide additional promotions for consumers.
