Canon U.S.A. Inc. has introduced the FS2720U, a new high-speed film scanner intended for 35mm and Advanced Photo System films. The scanner uses USB to connect to either a PC or Mac and will be available this September for US$599.
The FS2720U is a 36-bit scanner. It has an optical resolution of 2,720 dots-per-inch and can scan up to 13/10 seconds per frame. It sports 12-bit RGB input and output, and can accept slides or negatives, color or black and white, in either 35mm or APS formats.
The FS2720U includes Adobe Photoshop 5.0 LE, and is supported on the Mac using the Canon Plug-in Module FSU. The plug-in module provides control over focus and exposure control, zoom in/out, gradation settings and more. Canon said that scanner would work specifically on G3- or G4-based systems with built-in USB, running Mac OS 8.6 – 9.1.
