Writing for The New York Times , Phil Patton notes that while Apple’s Power Mac G4 Cube may have been discontinued, it’s won a spot in the Museum of Modern Art. Patton’s comments come in a new article entitled Apple’s Cubist Epoch Entered the Museum as It Exited Stores.
Patton reports that the Cube was acquired for the museum’s design collection along with six other Apple products (Patton does not identify the other Apple products, alas).
Curator Paola Antonelli explained that the personality of the objects in the Museum of Modern Art’s Workspheres exhibition is very important. “These objects give more meaning to the desk and the work. They are pleasant companions.”
It isn’t the first time New York’s Museum of Modern Art has featured Apple products, either — Patton reports that the museum’s collection also includes a 1984-vintage Macintosh and a QuickTake digital camera.
