Mac game publisher MacPlay today announced that it has secured the Mac publishing rights to Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition, which it calls “one of the most frequently requested titles for the [Mac] platform.” MacPlay said the game would be available for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X beginning September 21, 2001.

Avid Mac gamers have known that the game was coming to the Mac for quite a while now. The identity of the publisher of the Mac version has been an open question, however — Fox Interactive, the game’s original publisher, decided to get out of the game publishing market last year (they’re now working with other established publishers to bring their titles to market).
Aliens vs. Predator is based on the enormously popular 20th Century Fox film franchises. It’s a 3D action game that pits jaw-snapping Aliens against high-tech equipped human Space Marines and the enormously strong and well-equipped Predator species.
The game features 40 different levels, deformable environments, 10 multiplayer modes, particle and dynamic systems, dynamic lighting and more. This Mac version also includes the Millennium Expansion Pack, which equips the original game with new levels and weapons.
MacPlay president Mark Cottam said that his company listened to Mac gamers when they pursued the rights to Aliens vs. Predator.
“We’re excited to partner with Fox Interactive to bring the best in computer gaming to the Macintosh and are fully committed to our loyal customer base,” said Cottam.
Folks who visit MacPlay’s Web site will soon be able to place a pre-order for Aliens vs. Predator now for $24.99. U.S. customers get free shipping and handling, too.
