db Reports 2.5 from ab DataTools is now finished and can be downloaded from the Web site. db Reports now runs under Mac OS X.
db Reports is a cross platform report writing application that works on Mac OS Classic, Mac OS X and any Win32 platform. With db Reports, you can extract, format and print data from one of various data sources, according to developer Aaron Bratcher. The latest beta version adds functions for MOD, CountFields, and NthField. Also, a fatal error in the limit dialog when removing the last limiter has been fixed
Depending on your computing platform, data sources may include: 4D Server 6.7, FrontBase, mySQL, ODBC, OpenBase, Oracle, postgreSQL, REALDatabase, and Valentina. Using the built-in assistant, or the drawing environment, a report can be built quickly and easily, Bratcher said. db Reports also supports data grouping and fully recursive expressions.
With version 2.3, Frontbase support has been added. Copy/Paste works properly. A new “create new report/open existing report” window shows when no editor window is active. The SQL command can now be manually entered, and ODBC should now work properly. Expressions now have an “Auto Size” checkbox to allow the contents of an expression to size vertically. Valentina now supports tables and fields with spaces in their names.
A license for a single user is US$129, according to MacTech magazine. You can download db Reports 2.5 or the latest beta version (both are 2.1MB files) from the ab DataTools Web site.
