Attention independent Mac game developers: The Gama Network says that the submission deadline for the fourth annual Independent Games Festival (IGF) is September 1. So if you’re planning on submitting something, you better have it ready soon. The IGF takes place as part of the Game Developers Conference (GDC), which is scheduled for March 21 – 23, 2002 in San Jose, Calif.
The festival’s sponsors said that more than US$15,000 in cash prizes will be awarded to IGF winners at the next event. Ten finalists will showcase their games at the event itself, and awards will be given in four categories: Technical Excellence, Innovation in Visual Arts, Innovation in Audio, and Innovation in Game Design. An Audience Award and a Grand Prize will also be given.
IGF chairman Alex Dunne said that creative approaches to game design and development are key.
“Contestants will be rewarded for ingenuity and originality. We’re looking for games that add to the growth of the art form,” said Dunne.
A Student Showcase is also part of the Independent Game Festival. And although the IGF and GDC are primarily focused on the PC market, past IGF finalists have also supported the Mac. Titles like Terminus, Vortex, King of Dragon Pass and Food Chain have been on the lists over the years.
