As they first
promised last week, MonkeyByte.com has released a Macintosh version of
VistaPro, a landscape generation program. The new release is marked version 1.08.
VistaPro relies upon Digital Elevation Maps (DEMs) to turn 2D topographical data into 3D terrains. Users can create still imagery or 3D animated fly-throughs using VistaPro.
Although this is MonkeyByte.com’s first release of VistaPro, it’s not the first time the software has appeared on the Mac platform — a point not lost on readers of last week’s article. Now-defunct VRLI released the Mac version of VistaPro a few years back. The Mac programming team at MonkeyByte worked on the project.
“VistaPro is a wonderful rendering giant when it comes to landscapes and animated fly-throughs. We could not bear to release VistaPro just for the PC and not share that kind of fun with our friends on the Macintosh as well,” said Jean A. Ames, CTO of MonkeyByte.com.
