At Macworld Expo in New York last July, Apple CEO Steve Jobs told keynote address attendees that the first Apple retail store in Mass. would be coming to the Northshore Mall in Peabody. Now, details about the store are coming to light in the form of a direct e-mail from Apple and a new Web page.
Some recipients of the e-mail might get a bit confused, however — Apple’s e-mail said that the new store is opening “this weekend.” In fact, the store’s opening isn’t slated until next weekend — September 1st to be exact. This weekend marks the opening of the new store at the Woodfield Shopping Center in Schaumburg, Ill.
“At the Apple store, you can learn how to make a movie on a Mac, see how easy it is to burn a CD of your favorite music, or discover how to publish digital photos on your own website,” said Apple. “Learn about Mac OS X on our giant theater screen. Step up to the Genius Bar to meet your local Mac Genius. Get your hands on the latest Macintosh computers. Check out all of the great third-party hardware from Palm handheld computers to MP3 players, as well as over 500 of the most popular Macintosh applications.”
Apple noted that the first 1,000 people to visit the store will receive a free commemorative T-shirt.
Boston-area residents interested in coming to the store’s grand opening should be advised that Apple is holding “extended” grand opening hours on Saturday, September 1 and Sunday, September 2. The store will be open from 9 AM to 10 PM on Saturday and from 11 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. If the Northshore Mall store opening follows suit with other Apple store events, a line of Mac fans will probably gather hours before the store actually opens.
The Northshore Mall is located at 210 Andover Street in Peabody, Mass., at the junctions of Routes 128 and 114. For more details or directions, please visit Apple’s Web site.
