Want to buy a new or used Mac? The newest place to go is … Amazon? Yep, Amazon.com has launched an online computer store that sells new and refurbished desktops and notebooks from leading brands like Apple, Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, IBM and Toshiba.
Jeff Bezos, Amazon.com founder and CEO, said in announcing the computer store, that shoppers could also find computer components and peripherals, including memory and CPU upgrades, digital audio receivers, game hardware, graphics cards, modems, monitors, networking tools, printers, scanners, sounds cards and thousands of business, office and home-related software titles. The site offers online and phone help, a buying advisor tool, advanced search, side-by-side comparisons, an accessory finder and links to rebates.
Order fulfillment for new computers sold through the Amazon Computer store will be handled by Ingram Micro, a global wholesale provider of technology products and services. Refurbished computers in the store will be sold by third-party sellers like Essex Technology Group, Overstock.com and TechSmart. To celebrate the launch, the Amazon Computer store is offering free standard shipping on all new notebook computer orders through Labor Day this year.
