Online sources have reported that Apple has laid off anywhere from 25 to 50 employees. Apple isn’t commenting on any particular job cuts, but the company said their total headcount is increasing.
“The majority of these additions are to staff our new retail stores and to place Apple sales representatives in selected CompUSA stores across the U.S.” a company spokesperson told MacCentral. “In addition, Apple has recently added a number of talented new sales executives to its worldwide sales team. While some sales positions have been reassigned or eliminated during the normal course of business, the overall headcount in our sales and retail groups is growing.”
This bucks the trend of other high tech companies, most of which are seeing a drop in the overall head count. For instance, Gateway said yesterday it was sliced 5,000 workers, or 25 percent of its global staff.
