Think Computer Products — a company that specializes in memory upgrades, digital media, storage solutions, computer systems and other computer goodies — has introduced Fire-n-Ice and Fire-n-Ice To-Go FireWire storage solutions for Mac and Windows systems.
The storage line is targeted to consumers, photographers, graphic designers, video editing professionals, musicians and others who need large capacity solutions. The “Fire-n-Ice” hot-swappable desktop solution is available in 40GB, 60GB and 75GB capacities. And the storage solutions are relatively small, measuring 5 x 1 3/8 x 9 inches.
The Fire-n-Ice desktop version sports a 7200RPM drive with a 2MB internal drive cache. If it doesn’t pack enough punch on its own, you can buy multiple drives and stripe them together.
The mobile Fire-n-Ice To-Go drives measure 3.5 x 1 x 5.5 inches and are available in 20GB, 30GB, and 48GB solutions. They can be powered directly from Macs that support power through a FireWire bus (6-pin) and may be used on the road without being plugged into an adapter. For computers that don’t support a powered FireWire bus (4-pin) the drives can be used with a supplied power adapter.
Both versions of the Fire-n-Ice drives are compatible with FireWire enabled systems running Mac OS 8.6 and higher (including Mac OS X), as well as Windows 98SE/ME/2000. Pricing is US$259 for the 20GB model, $370 for the 30GB system, and $629 for the 48GB version. Fire-n-Ice Desktop Edition street pricing is $280 for the 40GB model, $340 for the 60GB version, and $415 for the 75GB edition.
