An Apple spokesperson confirmed for MacCentral that new AirPort cards are shipping that support 128-bit encrypted networks.
Until now, AirPort cards supported 40-bit encrypted wireless networks. There was no word from Apple if users of the older AirPort cards would be able to upgrade to the new encryption method through a firmware update. There was also no word on an enhanced AirPort base station that would support 128-bit encrypted networks.
The new AirPort cards are currently being shipped and available through the Apple Store and retailers.
