Opera Software today announced the release of Opera 5 for Mac OS X Carbon Beta 1. Opera 5 is the company’s small, fast, standards-compliant Web browser.
The company has already released versions designed for older Mac OS versions, and Opera Software CTO Hakon W. Lie said that development of a final version for all Mac systems is important to Opera Software. The browser supports 128-bit encryption, TLS 1.0, SSL 2 and 3, CSS 1 and CSS 2, XML, HTML 4.01, HTTP 1.1, ECMAScript, DOM and WAP/MWL.
The software sports search functions that enable Opera users to move between popular search engines and look for terms, domain names or stock quotes. Keychain support and URL auto-completion is now supported, and an extra button set is now included that was originally designed for attendees of Macworld Expo this past July in New York.
The new software is ready for download from Opera’s Web site. You can also download a beta version of the “Classic” version, if you’re using a Mac OS version prior to X.
