The loss of life and property incurred in yesterday’s tragedy at New York’s World Trade Center will take months, if not years, to fully comprehend. Akamai Technologies Inc. put out the word late yesterday that it, too, was touched by this horrific act. The company’s co-founder and chief technology officer, Daniel C. Lewin, was one of the passengers on the American Airlines plane traveling from Boston to Los Angeles that crashed into the World Trade Center tower.
Akamai Technologies Inc. is a provider of distributed application and content delivery services based in Cambridge, MA. The company’s many customers (and investors) include Apple, which uses Akamai to redistributed content like its QuickTime streams. Akamai was founded by several professors and graduate students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology based on work first done in 1995.
“Danny was a wonderful human being. He will be deeply missed by his many friends at Akamai,” said George H. Conrades, Akamai chairman and CEO. “Our thoughts and prayers are with Danny’s family, friends and colleagues during this time of national tragedy and personal loss.”
Daniel C. Lewin was 31 years old, and is survived by his wife and two sons.
