Here’s a product announcement that may be of some interest to surgeons who prefer to use Macs: Smith & Nephew Inc., Endoscopy Division today announced the release of the Dyonics Vision 325Z DV 3-CCD Camera System. The new endoscope incorporates FireWire-equipped computers.
The company said that when combined with off the shelf digital editing software, the device could be used to record surgical procedures for later editing and review, or for live streaming.
Smith & Nephew Inc., Endoscopy Division president Ron Sparks said that his company is bringing digital computing to the operating room and beyond.
“The ability of the streaming digital video feature on the 325Z DV Camera System to provide emerging real-time application for webcasting and live video broadcast will help hospitals, surgical centers and other medical institutions migrate into the digital video revolution age.”
The camera itself sports 800 lines of resolution, 10-bit digital signal processing and built-in image enhancement features. It can be programmed to control its 2.5x digital zoom, electronic shutter, gain and white set.
