today introduced Graphite, a new product that’s the first in the company’s new Designer Elements family of CAD and 3D modeling software. The product works on both Windows and Mac OS-equipped systems.
The company said that Graphite is built on the same proprietary technology it used to develop the Vellum platform. Graphite concentrates on “essential functions and select new enhancements that make professional drafting faster and more productive than ever,” according to Ashlar-Vellum.
Graphite incorporates Vellum Drafting Assistant, which enables intelligent snaps and automatic alignments in X, Y and Z axes, while associating points, midpoints, tangencies, intersections and other coordinates for rendering and modeling. The software also includes the Vellum Intuitive Interface, a GUI that the developer claims requires “minimal user training.”
A navigator palette lets users click through multiple sheets or layers, with popup support for layers and active documents and support for multiple sheet printing. More than 30,000 mechanical and CAD symbols are available through a preview symbol panel, along with the capability to create parametric symbols from any geometry. Graphite also includes a spell check feature with customizable dictionaries in English, Dutch, Swedish, German, French and other common languages.
The software supports dimensioning to standards including ANSI, JIS, ISO, BAE, DIN and ASME GD&T; multiple dynamic, associative views; CAD/CAM interoperability; and 2D and 3D equation-driven parametrics.
Graphite ships immediately, and is available from Ashlar-Vellum’s Web site and authorized dealers. The unit price is US$995.00. System requirements call A G3 or G4-based Mac; Mac OS 8.6 – 9.1; 256MB RAM; 512MB Virtual Memory; 150 MB HD space; CD-ROM.
