Mac game publisher MacPlay has announced that Aliens Vs. Predator Gold Edition has gone gold master. It’s the last step before the title goes to manufacturing — previous estimates had put the game into the hands of Mac gamers on the 21st of this month.
Aliens Vs. Predator Gold Edition puts players in the role of an Alien, Predator (as seen in the movies of the same name) or a human space marine as you vie for dominance on the surface of alien worlds. You can either play by yourself in a single-player game that runs for dozens of levels or you can take on other gamers online through the free Mac gaming service GameRanger. The game has been tooled for Mac OS 9 and Mac OS X, as well.
MacPlay president Mark Cottam said that Aliens Vs. Predator Gold Edition is one of the many titles his company has been asked to bring to Mac, and that it demonstrates MacPlay’s commitment to Apple and to the Mac gaming community. He also lauds the Aliens Vs. Predator experience under Mac OS X.
“The reliability and stability of the Mac OS X platform, along with its superior memory management, creates a faster-paced and more intense playing environment for the terrifying world of Aliens Versus Predator Gold Edition,” said Cottam.
If you’re interested in kicking the tires before you place your order, you can download a demo of the game. MacPlay noted that a preorder campaign remains in place through the end of September, although the company said that AvP should hit all major Mac software retailers “in the next few weeks.”
Minimum system requirements call for a Power Mac G3/233, 64MB RAM, Mac OS 8.6 or later, OpenGL-compatible graphics card, with a multi-button mouse recommended.
