Iridium SD outputs video via dual SDI, composite

Digital Voodoo today introduced the new Iridium SD card, a broadcast design card developed with two 10 bit SDI outputs and one composite output for preview. The company says the video card has been created for broadcast designers and graphic artist who would like to view their work either on a broadcast SDI monitor or via a standard NTSC or PAL video monitor. The card offers “the highest quality video output” for users of tools like Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Combustion, ColorTheory DV or Boris FX, according to Digital Voodoo.

The Macintosh video card enables users to work with uncompressed 10 bit 4:2:2:4 or 4:4:4:4 dual link video, directly in YUV colorspace.

Features of the Iridium SD include:

Fully digital SMPTE 259M / ITU-R BT.601 10 bit SDI output

Real-time uncompressed 10 bit QuickTime playback without any kind of video compression

Can be selected to operate in either 525 (NTSC) or 625 (PAL) television systems

Functions as a second Mac monitor when not in use for real-time uncompressed playback

Built-in safe area generator helps when using applications that don’t include this function

Video genlock, allows Iridium SD to be locked to station reference

The Iridium SD card will be available in October from all Digital Voodoo resellers. The card includes Media Transfer, an application that enables users to capture and insert to and from RS-422-based digital tape decks like Sony’s Digital Betacam offerings.

Iridium SD carries a suggested retail price of US$1,695.
