Every week MacCentral strives to bring you the latest breaking news and info from the Mac game industry. Occasionally there is news that we don’t run during the week, and for that, we’ve created this weekly retrospective.
Airburst 1.0.2 released
Strange Flavour noted the release of an update to Airburst, their fast-paced, reasonably priced arcade-style action game for the Macintosh. The new update improves the game’s “Screen Compatibility” mode and adds user-definable stickers for registered users. There are a few other minor gameplay tweaks and a few bug fixes.
Dark Castle 3 Demo Beta 6 released
Zachary Black of Z Sculpt Entertainment noted the release of Dark Caste 3 Demo Beta 6, the latest iteration of the demo version of the forthcoming game that will be published by Delta Tao upon release. He also noted for those folks that are impatient for the game’s release that he’s the only one working full-time on the project, and he reassured folks that the game will be published.
Harpoon 3 version 3.3.4 released
Jesse Spears notes the release of a new version of Harpoon 3, the naval warfare simulator. The new revision fixes a display bug and enhances the display of the Launch/Ready Aircraft dialog.
New Myth III screens, wallpapers
Myrgard.com noted that game developer MumboJumbo has graced them with a dozen new screenshots and three new wallpapers for the new game Myth III: The Wolf Age. The game will be published later this year, and the Mac version is coming from none other than MacSoft.
Parsec LAN test updated, OS X version too
The CQF (Commercial Quality Freeware) game 3D space shooter Parsec is still a work in progress, and the game’s developers this week took the wraps off a new version of the game’s LAN test. In other happy news, Parsec is also being worked on for OS X. This isn’t designed for Internet play, but if you and folks in your office would like to have a go, give it a try.

Inside Mac Games has posted a Radeon 8500 Tech Demo that might give gamers a better understanding of how ATI’s forthcoming graphics technology is bound to affect the quality of their game play experience on the Mac. If you’re a fan of Gathering of Developers’ offroad racing title 4×4 Evo, you might want to check out the Mac 4×4 Evo site for details and info related to the game. And MacGamer has reviewed Pong, the classic arcade game remake published by MacSoft.
Closer to home
Id Software designer and project manager Graeme Devine notes that a multiplayer test version of Return to Castle Wolfenstein will be available. It’s the first such indication that the game will be released for the Mac. Graphics chip maker Nvidia announced plans to make a 2-for-1 stock split when the stock market reopens on Monday. MacPlay announced that Aliens vs. Predator has gone gold master, the last step before the game goes into duplication. And Kutoka Interactive announced the release of Mia: Just in Time!, the latest edition of their popular learning/adventure game series starring Mia, an intrepid mouse.
