Keyboard, video and mouse (KVM) product maker
Gefen, Inc. has announced the release of their DVI-Repeater. The device enables users to extend a digital visual interface (DVI) signal up to 150 feet from the computer. Using Gefen’s ex-tend-it DVI to ADC conversion box, the device can be made to work with Apple displays of recent vintage, as well.
The DVI-Repeater has been developed for environments where it’s necessary to isolate the computer from the display itself. Practical applications include sound rooms or configurations that include a projector display that has to be away from the computer itself. Gefen said that the DVI-Repeater can work with cables 50, 100, or 150 feet in length.
The DVI-Repeater is priced at US$399. Gefen said that it’s currently shipping and can be purchased directly from the
company’s Web site.
Forthcoming products from Gefen include the DVI-Hub, which can extend two DVI signals up to 100 feet from the computer; the DVI-Switch, a cross-platform switch that enables two DVI-equipped computers to access the same monitor; and the DVImate, a cable conversion product that switches the gender of DVI cables to add extension capability.
