REALbasic 3.5.1, a free update to version 3.5, is now available from REAL Software. This new release improves reliability and includes enhancements to RbScript, RegEx, Rb3D, compiling for Windows, databases, the DataControl, and more, according to Product Manager Lorin Rivers.
You can download the update at the product Web site or the REAL Software iDisk.
REALbasic 3.5, an update of the development environment from REAL Software, was released last month and added support for 3D graphics, Microsoft Office automation, an internal scripting language, and more. Version 3.0 arrived in February with support for Mac OS X.
RbScript acts as a REALbasic Virtual Machine inside every REALbasic application, according to Rivers. Rb3D, the new 3D engine for REALbasic, lets users program 3D graphics for games, visualization tools, graphs, and more. REALbasic’s Regular Expression (RegEx) engine provides industry-standard text manipulation, and it’s compatible with PERL syntax. The new DataControl adds navigation and data display functions.
REALbasic is available in a US$149.95 Standard Edition and a $349.95 Professional Edition package, direct from REAL Software. Downloadable upgrades from version 3 will range from $29.95 to $89.95. Academic and volume discounts are also available as download-only options. In addition to US English, REALbasic is available in Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, and Japanese. REALbasic 4.0 is in the works and should arrive early next year.
