today released StuffIt Deluxe 6.5, an update to its popular compression program. The new application includes many new features including some for Mac OS X.
StuffIt Deluxe 6.5 includes the new StuffIt Express Personal Edition, allowing users to create customized drop box applications that can be configured to automate their file compression and transfer tasks. Version 6.5 also offers smart expansion of Palm OS files, and DropTar (a drop box compression utility for Unix). Aladdin will also sell StuffIt Express Personal Edition as a standalone product.
“By providing users with the ability to customize and streamline their file compression and transfer tasks, StuffIt Deluxe 6.5 offers an ‘all-in-one’ solution for exchanging information with customers, co-workers and friends via the Internet or any network,” said Peter Thomas, StuffIt group product manager.
Users of Mac OS X will also see the return of the Magic Menu on the top of the screen. Until now, Apple has reserved this space for their menus like AirPort, Sound and Battery — the menus were demonstrated as part of OS X 10.1 at last summers Macworld Expo.
