Alias|Wavefront today announced that Maya Complete for Mac OS X has begun shipping. Maya is an industry-standard 3D animation and effects software package used for effects in movies, television, games and other applications. The software has been touted repeatedly on stage at Macworld Expos since Alias|Wavefront first announced its support for the Mac. Maya Complete for Mac OS X is shipping a week ahead of its scheduled ship date, according to the company.
Alias|Wavefront director of Maya technologies Andrew Pearce calls the software the most technically sophisticated program to be made for Mac OS X. “We couldn’t have done it without Mac OS X’s support of OpenGL, the high level Carbon API, and Aqua’s transparent overlay windows,” said Pearce.
Features specific to Maya Complete for Mac OS X include support for QuickTime, tear off menus in the hot box, and a fully Aqua-comliant interface.
Through the end of the year, Alias|Wavefront is offering a special order promotion in which Maya for OS X users will get twelve months of maintenance, including product upgrades and support.
Maya Complete for Mac OS X carries a retail price of US$7,500 — the same price and equipped with the same core features as its counterparts on other platforms, noted Alias|Wavefront. International pricing will vary.
