French Mac game developer MacRun Games has announced the release of a Mac OS X-compatible version of their side-scrolling arcade game, Captain Bumper. This new Carbonized version is now available for download from their Web site.
If you’re a fan of the arcade-style side scrolling action games made popular during the era of the Sega Genesis and Super Nintendo video game consoles, then you’ll love Captain Bumper. It’s a family-friendly game in which you assume the role of a lantern-jawed hero who must navigate his spaceship through hostile alien terrain as he seeks to save the damsel in distress.
The game’s tongue-in-cheek B-movie plot is backed with entertaining and challenging gameplay and a terrific “2 1/2 D” engine developed by MacRun’s Richard Soberka. Captain Bumper features cartoon-style animation and rich color graphics, as well as high-quality sound effects. When the game was first released this past summer, it worked only on older versions of Mac OS. MacRun pledged to release a Mac OS X-compatible version, and they’ve made good on their promise.
MacRun Games sells Captain Bumper directly from their Web site, via a secure transaction from their online store. The game costs US$25 to register. A playable demo version is also available (and yes, the demo works in Mac OS X too). An update for previous versions is also available.
System requirements call for any PowerPC-based Mac (a fast iMac or G4 is recommended); Mac OS 8.6 or above (including Mac OS X); and 42MB of free memory.
