There are some new and updated products that m,ay be of interest to developers, according to
MacBrowse, a provider of applications and Internet solutions, has updated DataShell, a driver solution that allows FutureBASIC^3 developers to use Valentina XCMD, an object-relational, SQL-powered database engine, in their applications.
In the new version, 1.6, the following functions now require a string pointer for the language parameter: BaseObject_MakeNewField, BaseObject_ChangeFieldLanguage, and Field_GetLanguage. FutureBASIC, from
Staz Software, is a development environment for the Mac, based on the BASIC language.
DataShell didn’t work with Valentina XCMD 1.8.9r4, but the update fixes this. Plus, the reference manual and example projects have been updated. Version 1.6 is a maintenance release and is free for registered users.
DataShell 1.6 comes with a full reference manual, example projects, and utilities, and is available direct from MacBrowse.com for US $59.95.
Lift Onsite 2.0
UsableNet has released version 2.0 of Lift Onsite, a software tool for letting Mac Web developers test their Web sites to meet section 508 and W3C guidelines. Under
section 508, all federally funded websites are required by law to make all content and programs offered on their Internet and intranet sites accessible to people with disabilities.
The legislation also states that Web sites maintained by U.S. departments and agencies must be accessible, bringing accessibility issues to the attention of all Web developers. As of version 2.0, Lift Onsite now includes testing to meet section 508 guidelines.
Object Domain Systems
has announced ObjectDomain R3, a new iteration of its flagship UML modeling tool.
ObjectDomain is modeling solution lets developers analyze, design, build and deploy enterprise systems. It runs on any Java hosted environment including Mac, Windows, Linux and Unix. Among its new features, ObjectDomain R3 adds Shared Packages, a mechanism for multi-user development that doesn’t require a server component.
ObjectDomain will be available next month. Pricing for the professional version starts at US $995 with a standard version available for $495.
SQL4X Manager 1.3

of InterServices, Germany, a developer and marketer of software and service solutions for the Internet market, has unveiled SQL4X Manager 1.3 for Mac OS X, which includes all functions necessary to run a MySQL database. It includes a Database Navigator to browse through the table schema and edit table contents, a Backup Manager to create and schedule backups with cron, the SQL Console to run SQL Scripts and several Assistants.
The SQL4X Manager includes the 4X Log Viewer and the 4X Config Editor to edit system configuration files and browse database and system log files from the Mac OS X Aqua interface.
In addition to the SQL4X Manager, the InterServices MacOS GURU Team also plans on releasing a MySQL Import Assistant, a PHP Integration Module, and a Newsletter Manager based on MySQL for the most common tasks in Web system management. The company said that all additional modules would be available as free download for customers.
