Game publisher Destineer Studios announced today that Mac golf game fans will get a chance to create their own courses. The company’s Macintosh label, Bold, is currently working to bring the latest version of Microsoft’s Links golf simulator to the Macintosh this fall.
When the game ships, it will include the Arnold Palmer Course Designer (APCD) first introduced to PC users with Links 2001. The company noted that this is the first Links product for the Mac to include a course designer. The course designer is an editing program that enables Links users to create their own golf courses using sophisticated 3D tools. Over 300 fan-created courses are available for free download.
The Links series has long been available on the Macintosh, but this is the first installment of the game that Bold by Destineer will publish. Bold and Destineer are both new brands created by Peter Tamte, founder of popular Mac game publisher MacSoft, and former Bungie Software and Apple executive. Tamte founded Destineer Studios after leaving Bungie following the company’s acquisition by Microsoft.
Destineer Studios is developing its own original content for PCs, Macs and video game consoles. Bold is focusing on bringing Microsoft’s games to the Mac. Next month, Bold plans to release Age of Empires II Gold Edition. The new Links game will be released following that. The company also has plans to publish Flight Simulator 2002 for the Mac.
