Mac software publisher Casady & Greene announced that Grammarian X is ready for download from their Web site. It’s a Mac OS X-native implementation of the application-independent grammar checker, and it supports Carbon and Cocoa applications.
Grammarian X analyzes text and looks at each sentence for potential grammar problems. Casady & Greene claim that Grammarian X provides five times more grammar checking power than MS Word. The software features 150 built-in grammar writing rules, compared with 26 in Office. The software also checks a large number of homophones.
Of particular interest to educators, according to the company, is Grammarian X’s ability to lock and unlock the “Writing Rules” feature, which enable parents and teachers to lock phrase usage, grammar mechanics, punctuation and writing style settings. In a network environment, admins can create common writing rules settings and distribute them.
Grammarian X is available from Casady & Greene for US$49.95, and it’s available by download. Registered users of previous versions can upgrade for $19.95. Expect a physical version to be available for purchase soon.
