OSDN has added Mac OS X and PowerMac G4 servers to the SourceForge.net Compile Farm. This means that developers will now be able to use the world’s largest Open Source development website to test drive their applications on Mac OS X version 10.1, according to Richard French, senior vice president and general manager of OSDN.
OSDN, the Open Source Development Network, is a subsidiary of VA Linux Systems. It’s a news, discussion and collaboration network for the Open Source community. OSDN’s SourceForge.net is the world’s largest Open Source development Web site, currently supporting over 25,000 projects and over a quarter million users.
“With UNIX at its core, Mac OS X opens a world of opportunity for Open Source application developers,” French said in announcing the development. “This is an exciting time for the Mac, and we’re happy to be able to give the SourceForge.net developer community an opportunity to develop for this platform.”
The SourceForge.net Compile Farm provides a number of hosts running various Operating Systems on various hardware architectures. The compile farm is designed to provide resources for testing, debugging and porting of applications to new OS platforms.
The Farm gives developers access to major Linux, BSD and UNIX platforms, making it easy for them to build and test applications over the Internet, French added. The service is provided at no cost to Open Source project administrators registered on SourceForge.net.
A number of the services that SourceForge.net provides, including compile farm access, are only available to members of projects hosted on SourceForge.net. For more info, visit the SourceForge.net Compile Farm.
