Less than a week after officially announcing Office v. X, Microsoft’s Macintosh Business Unit today announced a Mac OS X compatible test drive of their popular word processing application, Word. The application will be available for download this Saturday from the MacTopia Web site.
Word X Test Drive is designed to run exclusively on Mac OS X 10.1 and takes advantage of Mac OS X technologies such as Sheets, the Quartz Drawing Layer, as well as the Aqua interface. Word X also includes new features like Multi-selection and Clear Formatting.
“Microsoft is inviting Mac users to take this opportunity to experience the simplicity of Mac OS X with the power of Word X,” a company spokesperson told MacCentral.
The Word X Test Drive is a pre-release version that will be available for a limited time as a free download from the MacBU Web site.
Keep in mind that Word X Test Drive is beta code. The MacBU also indicates that some features have been removed to reduce file download size.
Update: Microsoft has made Word X Test Drive available for download from their Web site today.
