Spring Cleaning, Aladdin System’s uninstaller for the Mac has been revved to version 4.0.1, which is shipping in English, French and German.
It also beefs up the Mac OS X support introduced in version 3.5.1. Spring Cleaning is an uninstaller package for the Mac. It enables users to search for and remove unneeded files, folders, applications and other remnants of software installation.
“With the adoption of Mac OS X, and users’ concerns over Internet privacy, our customers’ needs were the driving force behind Spring Cleaning’s redesign,” said Jonathan Kahn, Aladdin Systems’ CEO, in announcing the update.
The update’s CookieEditor lets you delete Internet cookies you don’t want to keep and save those you do. Mail Cleaner finds unwanted and duplicate attachments hidden by e-mail programs.
Standard and Advanced Modes are two new user interfaces offering different levels of cleaning. Standard Mode sports categorizing searches via cleaning tasks: Cleanup, Maintenance, Organize and Internet. Advanced Mode provides access to all of Spring Cleaning’s searches for more flexibility.
There are also some Mac OS X specific features. AccessMonitor offers a way for you to find files by their last access date, so you can determine whether the files are still important to keep. QuickCompare displays the differences between similar files, providing a way to identify which files should be removed.
Fifteen cleaning utilities scour a user’s hard drive to remove old and unwanted applications; files; folders; fonts; Internet clutter; orphaned aliases; damaged files; and more. Spring Cleaning also offers a Restore feature that lets you reverse actions and restore items to previous locations. And it includes iClean, a standalone desktop cleaning tool that cleans out Internet cookies, cache, and history files; reattaches aliases; and empties the Trash.
Spring Cleaning requires Mac OS 8.1 or higher and 4MB of RAM. Internet Config and Mac OS 8.6 or higher is recommended. The software carries a suggested retail price of US$55. To learn more about Spring Cleaning, go to the product Web site.
