The folks at Roxio are offering Toast 5 Titanium for OS X, Preview #2, the company’s software for burning data CD and DVDs, as well as audio CDs.
You can download the preview software (a 3.8 MB file) at the Toast for Mac OS X Web site. Since it’s beta software, not all features of Toast 5 Titanium are currently supported. To use the preview version, you must be a registered user of Toast 5 Titanium.
Toast 5 Titanium for OS X Preview #2 is time-limited software and is offered without warranty. This beta release software will expire on Feb. 1.
Company officials say this is “the first application to allow users to burn audio and data CDs and DVDs on Mac OS X.” Preview #2 requires a Power Mac running Mac OS X version 10.1 or later and won’t launch under Mac OS 9.
Preview #2 should work with all external FireWire CD and DVD recorders and built-in recorders attached to the IDE bus, according to Roxio. IDE recorders must be set to Master and have their own bus. (This means that the internal CD-RW drive of the new iBook won’t work.) Preview #2 has been localized in French, German and Japanese and provides on-the-fly language switching.
