(For those new to the column, Forward Migration is our term for companies moving from Wintel machines to Macs — or at least adding or increasing the number of Macs they use. A Forward Migration Kit is an overview of Mac OS products for a particular occupation, such as photography, optometry, etc.)
At the Noble and Greenough School in Dedham MA, this year’s incoming freshmen will be using iBooks for classes. Best of all, each will have access to the Internet/network via an almost campus wide AirPort network.
Forty iBooks are being used in the laptop program, according to Steve Bergen, computer coordinator and co-director of the Summercore Teaching Company. They’re being used in several ninth grade classes, such as English, history and math.
When the school year started, there were 10 AirPort base stations on campus. That number should reach 20 by Oct. 1, Bergen told MacCentral. The school has an online page describing the iBook program in detail, complete with reactions, background and more.
