First-person shooter fans, rejoice. Mac game conversion studio Westlake Interactive, in cooperation with Mac game publisher MacSoft, has released what’s billed as a “public preview” version of Unreal Tournament for Mac OS X.
Westlake President Mark Adams has made no secret of his efforts to produce a version of Unreal Tournament native to Mac OS X — he’s occasionally posted news about his efforts to Mac game-related Usenet newsgroups. Adams has spent the past few months crafting on OS X-compatible version of the game in his spare time, between other projects. It seems that Adams was waiting for the release of Mac OS X in order to make it happen, however.
Late last night, Mac gamers’ patience was reward with the release of the public preview, which Adams describes as “an early test version.” Because it’s an early version of this release, the developer advises that there will be problems — “It may not even work at all on certain systems,” said Westlake. Please make sure to read the included documentation thoroughly before trying it on your system.
And remember, in order to make the software work, you’re going to need the full version of Unreal Tournament or Unreal Tournament Game of the Year Edition.
