Graphics chip and card maker ATI Technologies, Inc. has offered
a new ROM updater developed for several of their Mac-compatible retail card product offerings. The new ROM update purports to offer improved Mac OS X compatibility and other changes.
Cards suitable for this upgrade include: RAGE Orion Nexus 128 Xclaim VR 128 Radeon Mac Edition
Major changes to the new update include:
Nexus 128, RAGE Orion, Xclaim VR 128 Fixed a problem causing Mac OS X to report a kernel panic.
Radeon Mac Edition Fixed a problem with supporting multiple ATI cards under OS X Fixed a problem with Display Jitter Added support for 16 bit Gamma
This updater application is not intended for any other ATI retail product, nor is it intended to be used for Macs that contain OEM ATI-based hardware that was included by Apple from the factory.
The updater contains ATI ROM Extender version 1.0.7 and the ATI Radeon PCI ROM Update. The installer has been developed as a Mac OS 9 application — it will not work in Mac OS X, either as a native or “Classic” application.
