Epson is making headway on OS X support for their line of inkjet printers. On new Mac OS X CD-ROMs there are drivers for the following models: Stylus COLOR 740, Stylus COLOR 740i and 740SE; Stylus COLOR 760; Stylus COLOR 777, Stylus COLOR 777i; Epson Stylus COLOR 860; Epson Stylus COLOR 880, Stylus COLOR 880i and Stylus COLOR 888 (or 8 Cube).
If you didn’t find your printer model among those listed, not to worry. In an online note, Epson said it “has been and continues to be fully committed to supporting the Macintosh market, including support for the Mac OS X operating system.” Now that Mac OS X 10.1 is here, the company said it has the “greater functionality than would have been possible under the initial release of the system.” Therefore, Epson said, “our engineers were able to move forward aggressively with the development of drivers that will support OS X.”
Epson plans to have updated drivers for several of their printers ready over the next few weeks. The drivers will be available on their Web site for download. The company has a Web page with more details and printer driver release dates.
