It’s been around for a while, but recent security threats to computers have increased its use dramatically. We’re talking about software maker Symantec’s Web-based security check. The free software can help you find out how secure your Mac’s connection is to the Internet. The tool attempts to make connections with your computer to find out if there are any serious problems that can be potentially exploited.
The Web-based tool works with both PCs and Macs, and performs a network vulnerability scan. It also attempts to ascertain the susceptibility of your computer to infection by so-called Trojan Horses. The tool also makes recommendations for what Symantec software you can install to better protect your system, as well.
Symantec recently said that increased awareness of problems like CodeRed and SirCam have caused the Symantec Security Check site’s daily traffic to nearly double. The site recently surpassed the 6 million user mark.
