Several products have been released this week of interest to Mac developers.
pgMac Database Kit — an industrial-strength database product from PostgreSQL and HeavyLifters that consists of the award-winning open source PostgreSQL database, an installer for Mac OS X and administration tools for managing PostgreSQL databases — has been certified for use with PostgreSQL.
The pgMac Database Kit is packaged to be used by a Mac OS X user with little or no database experience, according to MacTech magazine. A trial version can be downloaded from the product Web site. pgMac is available for sale at an introductory price of US$249 per single computer.
In other news, SQLBoss Developer is going into the final stages. The final preview release (version 1.0 61PR2) is now available for download. Registered user may download it via the members area. Users that have not chosen a password may use “SQLBoss” instead. SQLBoss Developer now comes with six different database plug-ins: Frontbase, SQLBoss Local Database, mySQL, ODBC, openBase and postgreSQL.
Also, Bob Delaney has finished version 1.0 of his freeware MPCalc plug-in for REALbasic. The plug-in is compiled only for Carbon and Power PC environments. A tutorial is included.
MPCalc plug-in provides the functionality of Delaney’s multi-precision RPN calculator to a REALbasic program. It can handle numbers with up to 30,000 decimal digits. It can also handle numbers whose absolute values lie between 1e-167100000 and 1e+167100000. Over 40 scientific functions are implemented in MPCalc plug-in. Extensive checks on input values prevent error conditions.
