Laptop Travel is now carrying the products of Standard Technical Merchandise, an Australian based manufacturer of laptop carrying cases.
“STM has produced an innovative and successful range of laptop luggage currently stocked in stores throughout Australia, New Zealand and now the United States,” company spokesperson Ethan Nyholm told MacCentral. “We have a tight range consisting of six styles in a variety of colors. At the retail level our bags are currently stocked in most of Apple resellers, bike shops, and some exclusive luggage stores and department stores. Our products fit a very diverse range of laptop including the new G4 PowerBook and iBook.
STM is the only Australian company focusing exclusively on laptop bags that are “comfortable, highly protective and fashionable,” he said. Their backpacks have a specially designed back system to provide comfort for the wearer, he added.
The first STM case to be carried by Laptop Travel is the US$89.95 Sport BackPack, which is ergonomically designed and has padded backing to cushion your shoulders, a specially padded inner compartment for your computer, and a waist strap and contoured rubber handle. Your PowerBook or iBook can be secured in its own section, suspended above the bottom of the bag and away from the back to secure maximum protection.
The padded pouch can be closed with a drawstring and Velcro strap. And the folks at STM say it’s unrecognizable as a laptop carrying case. A front section with multiple interior pockets accommodates PDA’s, cell phones, calculators, pens and other accessories. The rear section is separated into two expandable compartments for books, papers and files.
