Zero G Software, a developer of multi-platform software deployment and updating solutions, has announced complete Mac OS X support in InstallAnywhere 4.5, which is now available.
InstallAnywhere is a software deployment solution that handles most Mac-specific installation details automatically, including the creation of icons in the Dock and onto the desktop, full support for the Mac operating file systems (including Mac OS X’s long file names and Classic Mac OS’s dual fork files) and the ability to authenticate users with installation privileges, according to Eric Shapiro, CEO of Zero G.
“The new Mac OS X is going to give ISVs and IT managers a reason to reevaluate the Macintosh and its role in the business environment,” said Tracy Corbo, senior analyst with Cahners In-Stat. “The traditional Apple plug and play motto coupled with expanding peripheral support of the FireWire standard makes OS X an appealing low-maintenance alternative for thinly-stretched IT support staff. As Apple looks to rally software support behind its newest OS, Zero G is paving the way with a software installation solution that ensures easy, one-click deployment of Macintosh applications.”
The InstallAnywhere family is designed to streamline the process of multi-platform software deployment, Shapiro said, in announcing the Mac OS X compatibility. It sports the ability to run an installer in graphical, silent or console modes, to install and configure both Java and platform-specific software, the ability to integrate with PowerUpdate (Zero G’s complete software updating solution) and to install to more platforms than any other available solution, he added. The InstallAnywhere Family includes the following:
