In the third bit of good news to emerge from Mac game publisher MacPlay this week, the company announced that Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition is, at last, shipping. MacPlay announced earlier today the gold master status of Giants: Citizen Kabuto and earlier this week noted that its Mac RPG conversion Baldur’s Gate II: The Shadows of Amn was shipping, as well.
Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition is the long-awaited Macintosh version of a game originally published for the PC by Fox Interactive. Earlier this year MacPlay announced it would publish the Mac version, which languished following Fox Interactive’s decision to get out of the publishing business.
“Aliens Versus Predator Gold Edition is one of the many quality titles we have been constantly asked to bring to the Mac platform; we believe its release illustrates our ongoing commitment to Apple, and its loyal gaming community,” said MacPlay president Mark Cottam.
In this game, you take the role of one of several different characters as seen in popular 20th Century Fox motion pictures — the Alien or Colonial Marine (as seen in the Alien movie series) or a Predator (as seen in the movies of the same name). Each species has different attributes that can be exploited — Aliens are fast and vicious; Predators sport stealthy, precise technology; and Marines feature explosive firepower. But where there are strengths, there are weaknesses too.
System requirements for Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition call for a Power Mac G3/233MHz or faster; 64MB RAM; Mac OS 8.6 or later; OpenGL graphics; Multi-button mouse recommended. The game runs natively in Mac OS X, as well. Suggested retail price is US$29.95.
MacPlay said that Mac users should expect to find Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition at all major Mac software retailers within the next few weeks.
