Startup Doubler, a utility from shareware developer Marc Moini that speeds up the process of booting the Mac OS, has been updated to version 2.6.1, a maintenance release that adds support for Mac OS 9.2.1.
It now runs on Mac OS 7.0 through 9.2.1. Sorry, but there’s no Mac OS X version.
Moini says Startup Double is capable of making startups 10 percent to 50 percent faster, depending on the performance of a user’s startup disk and the number of Extensions, Control Panels and Startup Items. Fast disks in new high-end Macs can’t be accelerated much, but a free trial version lets you find out what Startup Doubler can do for your exact setup.
Startup Doubler is shareware, priced at $20. You can download it from Moini’s Web site.
