eVision has announced the release of a new evaluation version of eVe 3 Professional, a visual search toolkit developed for Mac OS X. The 60-day eval version is aimed at Java developers specifically.
As a visual search engine, eVe 3 Pro analyzes, indexes and retrieves images according to their perceptual features and context, according to the developer. You provide the engine with a sample image of what you want to find — a face or an object, for example — and it retrieves all similar content. It can work alone or in conjunction with text-based searches to help make finding content more intuitive.
The new version of eVe 3 Pro adds support for video searching. Once you provide a sample query image with content similar to what you’re looking for, eVe 3 Pro searches through digital video keyframes to find videos that contain similar content.
eVe’s API is 100 percent Java, according to the developer, and it can be adapted to both pro and consumer markets on a commercial or enterprise scale. Consumer implementations are already available in North Plain Systems’ Telescope digital asset management product and Canto’s Cumulus 5 enterprise edition.
