If you’re planning to play Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition with Mac OS X 10.1, there’s an update available for download from Macgamefiles.com that you’ll want to grab. It was released earlier this week.
Last week we brought readers word that MacPlay had finally shipped the long awaited Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition — a Mac conversion of the popular first-person shooter developed by Rebellion and published for the PC by Fox Interactive. The game enables you to take the role of Colonial Marines, Aliens or Predators vying for dominance in hostile environments. The game features three different single player tracks and a multiplayer mode that makes it possible to take on other gamers via GameRanger, the online gaming service for Mac users.
The new update to Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition corrects a problem involving the game’s ability to operate on Mac OS 10.1 using OpenGL 1.2. Although the game only began shipping last week, Aliens vs. Predator Gold Edition was declared final before Mac OS X 10.1 was released. MacPlay noted that while the game did function correctly using preliminary versions of Mac OS 10.1, the final version of 10.1 didn’t work the same way.
“No other fixes are included in this patch and it is not necessary to install this patch unless you are planning to upgrade to Mac OS 10.1 or are currently using it,” said MacPlay.
The 1.4 MB update is compressed as a StuffIt archive. The new updated application replaces the old one. And if you’re interested in taking a look at a gallery of screenshots from the game, check it out here.
