Bitstream Inc. today announced that Apple has entered into a long-term agreement to license the company’s fonts for the Mac.
Bitstream indicated that the fonts Apple has licensed are based on Kingsley-ATF Type Corporation designs. Kingsley-ATF Type Corp.’s roots go back to 1892 — its collection was directed and created by Morris Fuller Benton. The collection was acquired by printing equipment maker Kingsley in the 1980s.
Bitstream president Anna Chagnon explained that the fonts Apple has licensed are well suited for the Mac, with a simple, elegant look and feel. “Because of our experience working with application and OS developers who need great looking text on screen, we could offer Apple high-quality fonts from our extensive library. We are very pleased that Apple licensed fonts from Bitstream,” said Chagnon.
