Apple has introduced three new digital media solution bundles for the education market at this week’s EDUCAUSE educational conference in Indianapolis, IN.
“Last January we introduced the iBook Wireless Mobile Lab as a complete solution, and it was very popular,” Cheryl Vedoe, Apple’s vice president of education marketing & solutions, told MacCentral. “Building on that basis, we’ve introduced three new digital media solutions to help educators more effectively take advantage of digital media solutions, to help them pull all the pieces together.”
The Professional Digital Media Studio, targeted mainly to higher ed institutes, is a US$27,499 package that includes a dual 800 Quicksilver Power Mac G4, three 733/QuickSilvers, one Titanium PowerBook G4/667, one 22-inch Apple Cinema Display, three 17-inch Apple Studio Displays, one Sony NTSC monitor, one RTMac PCI card, a Canon XL1S MiniDV camcorder, two Canon ZR20 MiniDV camcorders, one Hewlett Packard Photosmart 818xi digital camera and three Canon digital videocassettes.
Bundled software includes five copies of Final Cut Pro 2.0, one copy of DVD Studio Pro 1.1, one Cleaner 5 and five Adobe Photoshop Elements. Accessories include one LaCie 80GB FireWire drive, four SmartDisk VST 20 GB FireWire thin drives, five Labtec Verse 704 USB microphones, two Apple DVD-R media kits, one Belkin six-port FireWire hub, one Belkin seven-port FireWire hub, three Apple FireWire cables and one USB A/B device cable.
Targeted more toward K-12 institutes is the $19,999 Mobile Digital Media Studio. Along with eight 600MHz iBooks and one AirPort Base Station, it includes all the digital media devices needed to capture images from just about any source, Vedoe said.
Besides the iBooks, it includes three Canon ZR20 MiniDV camcorders, one HP Photosmart 318xi digital camera, one Canon CanoScan USB scanner, an Epson Powerlite 50c projector, one Bretford digital media storage cart, four Labtec verse 704 USB microphones, four Labtec Icon 730 headphones, one Belkin pro audio cable, one Belkin Ethernet cable, three Apple FireWire cables and two USB A/B device cables.
The Custom Digital Media Studio lets you tailor your own digital media studio. You can mix and match iMac, iBook, PowerBook or Power Mac G4 systems, according to your needs, Vedoe said.
