Adobe Systems Inc. today announced PDF Transit. Unlike most of their products, Adobe isn’t focusing PDF Transit on the end user. In fact, PDF Transit is a software development kit (SDK) that print shops can use to create PDF-based print submission and management services for their customers. PDF Transit is aimed at companies who are building print workflow solutions.
The PDF Transit kit includes a client builder tool and server components. Once created, a PDF Transit-based system enables customers to create, submit and digital preview their print jobs. Meanwhile, print providers are able to configure the client software to generate PDF files that match the capabilities of their own output devices. “This ensures that customers can access print services directly from their desktops to print content any time, any place, and from any device,” explained Adobe.
Adobe indicated that PDF Transit has already been adopted by AlphaGraphics and IKON Office Solutions.
