Sorenson Media has announced the release of a new product — Sorenson Squeeze — and an update to an existing product, Sorenson Video 3.1.
Sorenson Squeeze is billed as the first variable bit rate (VBR) compression application for QuickTime 5 on Mac OS X. It enables users to create, encode and deliver QuickTime movies for streaming and progressive downloads. It has a drag-and-drop interface and can perform intelligent compression of audio and video media based on the selected data rate.
For a limited time, Sorenson Squeeze is available on Sorenson Media’s Web site for US$149. The suggested retail price of the software is $299.
Sorenson Video 3.1 is the latest version of the company’s popular QuickTime-compatible video codec. With Sorenson Video, developers can compress high-quality video for low-bandwidth applications. The new version of Sorenson Video implements Mac OS X compatibility, support for multiprocessor-based systems and one-pass VBR compression. It sports twice the compression speed as Sorenson Video 2 and three times the speed when using VBR compression.
Sorenson Video 3.1 is available as a free upgrade for Sorenson Video 3.0 users. Customers using versions prior to 3.0 can upgrade for $249. The full package costs $499.
Both Sorenson Squeeze and Sorenson Video 3.1 are also available as part of a special promotion for $499.
