There’s a new beta version of the Opera Web browser for the Mac — Opera 5.0 for Mac OS Beta 4 — now available from Opera Software. The folks at Opera say the new version offers Mac exclusive features.
Opera 5.0 for Mac OS Beta 4 is for Mac OS 7.5.3 through 9.2; however, a Mac OS X version is also in the works. Mac users can now download the browser for free with a small ad-banner in the upper right-hand corner and check out new features such as the unique link toolbar and improved drag and drop, according to Hakon Lie, chief technical officer of Opera Software.
Opera 5.0 for Mac Beta 4 includes major improvements such as a new installer, better AppleScript support, autofill of forms, new balloon help and a revised preference layout, he added The bookmarks are now also searchable.
Users can download Opera 5.0 for Mac OS Beta 4 free. After installing the browser, you can register Opera for US$39 and support Opera’s efforts to develop the browser further if you’d like.
Opera 5.0 for Mac OS Beta 4 supports the following World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) standards: 128-bit encryption, TLS 1.0, SSL 2 and 3, CSS1 and CSS2, XML, HTML 4.01, HTTP 1.1, ECMAScript, DOM and WAP/WML.
